Frequently asked questions

How do I connect to Wi-Fi using a QR code?

Open the camera app on an iPhone or Android phone and point it at the code, then tap the notification to join. Most phones from the last few years support this without any extra app.

Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?

The code contains the password, so anyone who scans it can join — just like telling them the password. For public places, use a separate guest network. On MyCalc the code is generated in your browser, so your password is never uploaded.

What if I change my Wi-Fi password?

Static QR codes store the password inside them, so you will need to generate and print a new code after changing it.

Does it work for hidden networks?

Yes. Tick “Hidden network” so phones know to look for a network that doesn’t broadcast its name.
